What attracted you to Scrapbooking?
Well, on my 13th birthday, I was given my first scrapbook. I had no
idea how to use it and what to scrapbook with so it was left in my
cupboard for a couple of months. When I went to a friend’s house I
found that she did scrapbooking. I looked through her albums and was
amazed. I had no idea you could use flowers and buttons and so many
different patterned papers on one layout. It was amazing! So from then
on, I was hooked, creating layouts that were eye pleasing to me. I have
now been scrapbooking for almost 2 years and I don’t think I will be
stopping any time soon.
How do you create your layouts?
Usually, I pick the size photo I want and go from there. Using a photo
in that size that I wouldn’t use, I turn it over and base my layout
around it. I am not the type of scrapbooker whose colour choices are
based around the colours in the photo, I find the right photo after I
have made the page. I don’t ‘pick and stick’ my embellishments and
papers, I like to arrange my whole layout before I stick anything down.
How do you choose your supplies?
If they capture my attention and it is pretty and I have some money, I’ll buy it.
How often do you scrapbook? When do you do most of your work?
I scrapbook almost everyday after school. I mostly want to scrapbook
when I am not allowed to, for example, when my mum asks me to do work
around the house, or cook, that’s when I mostly want to scrapbook, to
get out of it, hehe.
How long does it take you to complete a layout?
It usually takes me anywhere between half an hour to an hour and a half.
What technique do you love but are yet to try?
Distressing with Tim Holtz Distress inks. I love the effects created with them, just haven’t had a chance to try it yet.
How important is journalling to you?
For me, journaling isn’t such a big part on my layouts, I don’t mind
if I don’t have journaling, but I do like writing the date and place
somewhere.
How often do you handwrite on your layout?
It’s about half and half for me, sometimes if I do journal I type, other times if I use a journaling spot, I handwrite.
What inspires and motivates you to create if you get a creative block?
I love reading blogs and chatting to others on online forums. The
people are encouraging and supportive. I also play with paint in my art
journal. It doesn’t have to be ‘pretty’ just mixing colours around that
I love.
Describe your scrap space
My scrap space is in my bedroom. On one side of the room there is my
bed, drawers, etc, but the other side has a big piece of wood on old
speakers and random pieces of shelving everywhere. When my best friends
come over, they come and write things on my desk. I like to read them
when I am in my creative mood. I am content with my area because if I
have an idea during the night, I can get up, sit at my desk and sketch
it out or write it down.
Do you prefer to scrap alone or at a crop?
Honesty, alone. I find that I am more creative and I can work at a pace
I enjoy. At a crop, I get distracted too easily and sort of get lost
with what I am doing- not saying that it is not fun, I still enjoy
meeting and creating with others who share the same passion as me.
What advice would you give to new scrapbookers?
Dont.Be.Scared! Don’t be afraid to use paint or mix up the patterned papers a little bit. It’s all about experimenting.
Do you have a blog? What do you use your blog for?
Indeed I do: Ruby.Claire.(: I use my blog to share my latest projects. I don’t do too much ‘talking’ on there, it’s mainly just like a gallery.
