Julie Dudley
What attracted you to Scrapbooking?
I started out stamping and card making when I met my husband’s best
friend’s wife and after a few years of saying that scrapping would
never get to me it finally got me about four years ago. Now I do a mix
of both cards and layouts.
How do you create your layouts?
I start out most times with the photos and then start pulling out
papers that will go with it then go from there. I enjoy joining in on
challenges when I can often my pages will get a jump start from them.
How do you choose your supplies?
I usually will buy what I love and then have fun playing with my overflowing stash as there is a lot I love.
How often do you scrapbook? When do you do most of your work?I
work part time so have an unwritten rule that I don’t scrap on the
nights that I go to work. So Wednesday through to Saturday nights after
Asher is in bed and if we have no other plans Craig will go and play
his computer game and I’ll scrap.
How long does it take you to complete a layout?
Well that can change like the wind. I have been
known to take ages over the simplest looking page in the end and ones
that look like they could off taken me a while didn’t. It all depends
too on if what I am aiming to do is working right. Sometimes it is and
others it isn’t. Generally about 2 hours.
What technique do you love but are yet to try?
I love the way that napkins have been used on projects but as yet haven’t been game enough to try it out for myself.
How important is journalling to you?
If there is a story to tell behind the photos then I’ll journal but lately it has mainly been the basics. Where and when.
How often do you handwrite on your layout?
I usually will always handwrite on my layouts somewhere even if it is just the date.
What inspires and motivates you to create if you get a creative block?
I enjoy checking out the galleries of my favourite sites and the blogs
of my favourite scrappers for inspiration and most times that will help
with any creative block.
Describe your scrap space
What scrap space? I scrap at my kitchen bench. I am lucky that my bench
is a big one and that at the end of my scrappy session I can pack or
stack up most of my goodies I have out on one side of the bench and
cover it with a cloth when I comes time to cook.
Do you prefer to scrap alone or at a crop?
I enjoy doing both. I have a regular weekly get
together with two of my girlfriends and love the time spent scrapping
and chatting together.
What advice would you give to new scrapbookers?
Enjoy what you are doing and scrap for yourself
and your family. There are no rules set in concrete about the do’s and
don’ts of scrapping it pretty much comes down to a personal choice and
everyone is different.
Do you have a blog? What do you use your blog for?
Yes I do – They Call Me the Scrapnut It is mainly for sharing my scrapping projects with a little bit of what is going on in our lives too.
If you had 3 wishes, what would they be?
- That my family and friends are all safe, well and happy.
- That I eventually get my own scrap room.
- That there will come a day when I no longer need to go to work and I can be a stay at home mum.
Please share with us, 3 random things about yourself.
- I have been in the same job for twenty years and am heading towards my second lot of long service.
- Craig and I met when I answered an ad in a personal column.
- I’ve never left the state of WA.
